Take the sweltering weather this weekend as a sign – summer is upon us. And with that comes sandal season.

After hiding all winter and this cold spring spent in our winter socks and boots, our toes are begging to be set free. That means showing them off in sandals that are alternately fun, colorful, sparkly, earthy, high, low, comfy, or glamorous. Here are some fabulous options to consider right now.

Earthy: As if Birkenstocks weren’t crunchy enough, the company just created a vegan version of one of its most popular styles. The new Sienna ($110 has all the timeless hallmarks of the shoe style—two straps, matte buckles, an anatomically shaped sole—but with a canvas upper and microfiber sole liner. And it comes in stylish hues like eggshell and soft pink, so there’s no need to confuse it with its classic Birks cousins.

Innocent: The Greek Isles meet nautical New England in these simple and versatile apartments. The INDY Slide ($75 sporting puffy braid detailing (in shades ranging from simple off-white to cool lavender) and a rubber outsole, so you can wear them from the pool to the farmer’s market without worrying about slipping.

Glittering: Nothing brightens up an outfit better than a slice of metallic leather, especially when it comes to a shoe that defies the usual silhouettes. The Lug console ($550 on in lamé khaki is drenched in metal from its top (a supple Nappa leather) and bed (a plush high-density memory foam cushion) to its bottom (a lightweight rubber lugged sole). Wear it with virtually anything; gold acts as the coolest neutral you can imagine.

Medium: For height fused with comfort, wedges and platforms are summer must-haves. I love the Willow Platform Sandal ($89.95 on Its two-piece 3-inch platform (lined in the lovely classic espadrille weave) has a rubber sole and the suede upper is adjustable for total comfort. Bonus: they’re eco-conscious, thanks to soles made with 32% eco-content (15% waste foam, 5% recycled content, and 12% organic oils).

Comfortable: Comfort doesn’t have to mean dull. The proof? Designs like the Sominic Women Sandals Orthopedic Wedges ($45.99 on Their lace-embroidered leather design is stretchy and breathable, and they have anatomical arch support to relieve foot and back pain. Best of all, they’re slip-resistant and come in colors ranging from bright red to dusty yellow.

Total glamour: Sometimes you just need to hit something that’s guaranteed to dial in the vavoom factor. This is where styles like Vince Camuto’s Gebbrian Platform Sandal ($77.98 to $85.98 on come into play – decked out in a faux snakeskin print or a cool pool blue hue.
